Brief 2 Concept Development

For my 2nd Core module Brief I decided to collaborate with Marty Edwards on the basis that we both had a simular range of skills in the sense of Type & Layout but what really drew us together is the skills and the ambitions we had around that.

For our brief we established that we both have issue's with note taking and organisation. Within those issue's we both have incredibly bad case of dyslexia which has helped establish those problems more prominently and allowed us over the years to work through our problems and rise above them.

We decided to create a brief which we could utilise your already identified problems and resolve them through our typographic skills. In everyday studio life we are challenged with a set of problem which we have identified into 3 separate sections:

Typographic Production

No access to a specific notebook tailored to type production (Ready made grids, notes on the type)

(Research different things typographers would want to utilise in a single sketchbook)  

Image Production

No access to pre drawn grids and boxes for logo production, thumbnail boxes, notes, format best suited for image.

Note taking

Your general everyday things.

Dates, lined area's for writing, sqaures for drawings, phonebook, calender ect. 

Within each of these sections we have notebooks which allow us some relief mainly from the mainstream suppliers like penguin, leughtturm, moleskin. Although each of these companies produce a sketchbook which has identified problems and produced grids which help organise your work we feel that we can focus the problems to a more tailored creative audience and solve this to the best of our abilities into 3 separate books.

Audience

Graphic Designs, Animators, illustrators, Typographers, Creatives as a whole.


We propose:

We aim to produce a range of 3 books which are easily transportable for a designer and ideals for field notes. Within creating 3 books we aim to produce a Brand and a web platform to sell them on as well as a in store point of sale.

Within our roles there will be a very open outlook on the design, we will both act as designers in the sense that we influence each others design with input but overall I will focus on the Brand and Marty will focus on the producing the books, Although we both agreed that depending on the weight of the production we can both step in and help on a problem if it turns out to be more work then expected.

Rational

An editorial investigation into Type/Layout/Grid with a focus on print. We will solve organisational and note taking problems through layout aimed at the Creative industries.
