I am really happy with the result of this brief. I just feel annoyed that I ran out of time at the end to fully exploit this brief with an additional range of 4 more vinyl. I will continue this and complete it for my final year exhibition. I also feel that although this brief is aesthetically nice it might not be too practical for a small (probably low budget) record label as it would be very expensive to recreate this branding on a commercial scale but the concept is still sound and Im sure it would be possible to rework it in a cheaper format.

Range

The final range for hand in is Letter heads x1, Vinyl cover x1, business cards and envelope.

I am happy at the end result as the range fits really well together just really annoyed that I didn't get time to print the rest of the covers. One issue that is obvious is that it would be really expensive for the company to reproduce this brand with their letterheads due to having to print with white ink so I made a additional letter head printed on Grey to make an affordable back up.

What I didnt get time for.

Seeing as I had 2 failed days worth of screen printing. I ended up having 4 vinyl covers I never had time to print.

This is the vinyl cover packaging for all the vinyls to go in. It has all the artists and track names on the fron and its designed slightly bigger then the rest so 5 vinyls can slide into it.

All the vinyls work in a series and have samples of the wave form sampled so each cover has part of the actual track screen printed on its cover.

Todays screen printing actually worked. The monotone print on the black sat well and on the black card.

Cheap Thrills Screen printing take 2...

I went screen printing again. The business cards, letterheads and envelopes worked fine but I stuck 2 record covers on a single screen to try and save time. this infact did the opposite. the artwork was too close to the edge of the screen and basically messed up the pressure everytime I pulled paint through, creating too much force and bleeding white ink close to the edge and giving me an uneven spread. This meant I had to go back the next morning. 

Cheap Thrills Alterations and prep for 2nd go at Screen Printing

I decided to drop the 2 tone prints to just a single monotone Print. So I merged all my screen print negatives together again. I decided to print White on black card in order to fit the the previous range I made and I knew that colour scheme prints well.

Cheap Thrills Screen Printings. Take 1

Todays screen printing absolutely failed. I was printing florescent green on ice white and champagne. The ink ended up absorbing into the stock too much making the paper wobble and generally took the shine out of the paint. Even though I did a 2 colour print knowing that text wouldn't come out very well the black bled due to the medium being watered down from the place i was printing so my bold font did not set well at all.

The watered down medium made the florescent green look like a marker pen and left horrible streak marks. 

Some print tests for new vinyl range. 4 out of 5

Vinyl negatives ready to be printed and exposed. The only issue is 1 of these can fit on an A2 screen so printing will be very time consuming and I dont have much

I quickly mocked up these on photoshop to see if I would prefer the invert or the normal for the range. Initially I prefered the white range but I will see how my first day of screen printing goes. Because printing white on black stock is a potentail fall back if the first day doesn't work.

Cheap Thrills Color Schemes

I sampled some colours front my old screen printed vinyls to get a set colour scheme across the branding range. I picked some of the more vibrant colours which will draw attention and should fit with the record labels music. Bright colours will also help it stand out from the already overcrowded music industry.  

Photoshop files dropped into illustrator

This is the result of the live traced vector image from illustrator. I continued to then slice it up into sections to apply it to my artwork. 

Initial playing around and just putting the vector artwork into my indesign record cover file showed some good result and i now feel confident to continue to make a range out of this.
