Submission Boards Brief 1 Fashion Yearbook
Now there were a lot of ups and downs on this brief. But over all my only regret is having to work with the fashion tutors. I feel that we could of produced a beautiful printed publication that their degree program would of been more then happy with seeing as me managed to pull this mock up out the back in a matter of a weekend. I enjoyed collaborating with my group but again all the pressure made this a horrible brief and put a downer on my final major project for about a month, at least I know how to spot trouble clients early on and after seeing our mock ups it has not knocked my confidence as a designer.

Yearbook PDF fail
After meeting with Amber last week it turns out that the fashion degree program has decided that they would like to make their own poster. instead of using the designs we worked on very hard. This is fine. but it also means that I have wasted an unreasonable amount of time working on the poster and pdf.
I decided to take some initiative and photograph the content by myself. I printed a cover mock up and got simon cherry to help on some of the inside spreads. I stripped out an old yearbook and rebound my cover design and simons inside spreads. I also got sarah to Print out the posters at A2 scale in order to get the project to fit together.
The previous photos you have just seen are the result of my photography, clever lighting and crafting. As a whole it looks incredibly convincing. It just to an extent upset me to see what the fashion degree program could of had... lets hope the designs they make themselves are up to standard as I feel what we made is at a high standard and fits into what Suzie mason (Fashion degree program leader) would call 'FASHION'.

Over all I was happy that the book and the posters fitted together really nicely and we could actaully produce a brief and a portfolio piece out of it. just....
Fashion yearbook cover variations
Cover designs. I sat with simon cherry to get some feedback while producing some cover variations for the mock ups and we preferred board 5 out of 7 the most mainly as it wasnt overly bais and it didnt have model on the cover. it kind of gave an idea of fashion and white the logo printed over the top it made you want to open it up and reveal whats inside.

Fashion & Design half of PDF (still need to link pages up with hyperlinks)
Here is my work on the PDF. I started getting through half the pdf when i realised that the content we were working with was so incredibly poor. It actaully looked more like a bad illustration course rather then a fashion degree course. It also made the good work POP* in a sea of rushed submitted content. This made me rather unmotivated to spend another 4 hours to do the 2nd half of the degree program but we have another meeting with amber and suzie this week to see whats going on.
The reason the names on the context page were so big is I was busy hyperlinking each name to the specific page. this was a really handy feature on Indesign and actaully made me excited to work on the PDF. Shame about the content.

Course overviews
Some more initial layouts aimed at print before suzie mason changed all the content and we had to start the design process over again for the body copy.
Double page spreads
I selected some of the best from from the intire degree program to try and build a grid with the content I had the photographic and pattern based work was easy to deal with especailly as we were going for a magazine style layout but the problem arrised when I had to work with the none photographic spreads which had no real structure and it was near to impossible to construct a grid to encorporate them. So i worked with the best stuff hoping that suzie would keep to her word and send us in more photographic content. Either way I constructed a very open grid so worst case scenario I could still fit the illustration work into it.

These were my final versions of the posters which did not get selected in the end. but overall you can see my development and how I got to it. The idea behind the large images at the front was to showcase the good content and then get you to turn the poster around which would show the rest of the work. At this point i was still working with place holder images as I had not received anything final from the Fashion degree program as of yet.
Meeting with Suzie about posters after easter holidays:
Suzie did not like these posters as she thought they were bais and did not represent fashion. She followed on to say that her 12 year old could design a better poster on vista print. No critical feedback was given or anything to give us an idea what 'Fashion' was and what she wanted to change. We continued to create more variations to take to a further meeting later on the week.

Various Grids and layouts all designed to hold a lot of images. At this point we were still designing blind as we had no content and we didnt know if were were designing a single poster for both pathways or 2 posters, 1 for each pathway.
Poster sizes and square fold test
Some quick tests in formats of 210x210 fold downs. I used an A1 piece of paper and we could basically either get 2 rows of 4 sqaures or 3 rows of 4.
